Installation and Application of Vortex Flowmeters

Introduction to Vortex Flowmeters

The vortex flowmeter is based on the Karman vortex street principle and is a high-precision measuring instrument used to measure the volumetric flow, standard volumetric flow and mass flow of gases, liquids and vapors.

Model: VFM/WJEN
Power supply: 3.6V / 24V DC / 220V AC
Output signal: 4-20mA\RS485\Pulse\HART - selectable

It is widely used for flow measurement of various media in industrial pipelines, and has the following characteristics:

• Low pressure loss: Reduces energy consumption and is suitable for various fluids.
• Wide measurement range: Adapts to the measurement requirements of both high and low flow rates.
• High accuracy: When measuring the volumetric flow rate under working conditions, it is insensitive to parameters such as fluid density, pressure, temperature, and viscosity.
• High reliability: No moving mechanical parts, low maintenance requirements, and long-term stable instrument parameters.
• Wide temperature range: Uses piezoelectric stress sensors, with a working temperature range of -20°C to +250°C.
• Diverse outputs: Supports analog standard signals and digital pulse signals, facilitating integration with digital systems such as computers. The vortex flowmeter is an ideal choice for industrial flow measurement, widely used in the fields of petroleum, chemical industry, power, and metallurgy.(4-20mA\RS485\Pulse\HART....)

Installation Requirements for Turbine Flowmeters:

Correct installation is crucial for ensuring the performance of turbine flowmeters. The following are the core requirements for installation:
1. Installation Environment Selection
• Away from Interference: Avoid proximity to strong electrical equipment, high-frequency devices, and strong power switches to prevent electromagnetic interference. • Avoid Extreme Environments: Stay away from high-temperature heat sources, radiation sources, strong vibration areas, and corrosive environments.
• Convenient for Maintenance: Choose a location that is convenient for installation and maintenance.
2. Upstream and Downstream Straight Pipe Segment Requirements
To ensure a stable flow field, the installation point must meet the following straight pipe segment requirements:
• Same Plane Double 90° Elbow: Upstream straight pipe ≥ 25D, downstream ≥ 5D
• Different Plane Double 90° Elbow: Upstream straight pipe ≥ 40D, downstream ≥ 5D. • Valve Position: Should be installed 5D downstream of the sensor; if it must be installed upstream, upstream straight pipe ≥ 50D, downstream ≥ 5D.
3. Installation Method and Vibration Reduction Measures
• Concentric Installation: The sensor and the pipeline should be kept coaxial, with a deviation ≤ 0.5DN.
• Vibration Reduction Measures: Avoid installing on pipes with intense vibration. If unavoidable, add pipe fastening devices and anti-vibration pads at 2D upstream and downstream.
• Horizontal Installation: Usually, horizontal installation is adopted to ensure smooth fluid flow.
